CathyK's Story
Family and painting are my true passions!
My husband and I spent a good part of our lives raising 3 beautiful boys. Christopher is my oldest and his younger brothers, Corey & Kyle are identical twins. When the twins were born, we had 3 children under the age of 2. We had a great life raising them...and I had little time for painting!
It wasn't until our boys were in high school that our lives took a bit of a roller coaster ride. We put on our seat belts and did our best to hang on.
In 2003, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Then, 2 years later, my husband was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. I remember speaking to a group of ladies at my church...telling them our story...and thinking we had made it over the hurdle. That was far from the truth. Two years later, our 19 year old son Kyle passed away. We were brokenhearted and in so much pain that I didn't know how we would breathe again. Have you noticed that I sign each painting with CathyK? The "K" stands for Kyle, my beautiful son.
I'm not telling you these things so you will feel sorry for us. I'm writing this because I want you to know that I SURVIVED ! These events are just a part of my life story. I'm sure my survival has everything to do with our growing family, which now includes our beautiful daughter in law, our wonderful grandchildren and my art! I have the support of family and friends, whom I love until it hurts and who have been loyal and good to us in every phase of our life. I have had some bad times, but I can tell you that I learned how to breathe again and smile.
I would consider myself a self-taught artist. I have had a few art lessons over the years, but at this point...I'm not even sure which is the right brush to use or how to explain how I do what I do (LOL)! I just paint! I suppose that I can thank my beautiful mom who was so talented and artsy...and of course... I can thank God.
My colorful acrylic paintings best describe ME! They show you who I am and how I feel on any given day. I was raised in Louisiana and have lived in Florida for the last 30 years. You can see a little of the southern culture from each of those states in my work, which includes jazz players, fleur di lis, crabs and oysters, colorful flowers, fish and wild color! I try to paint a little of everything.
My acrylic paintings bring me lots of joy. I hope that they make you smile too.
